Farnsfield Parish Council, based in North Nottinghamshire, released a tender to deliver the refurbishment of the existing toddler play area and a new junior play area at Hadleigh Recreational Park. The village play area site had to be designed to include play equipment that catered to the needs of the wider community and be accessible to all children of the village and its surrounding areas.

Proludic created an enclosed toddler play area. This is an expansive open-plan junior space and a natural village play area for non-descriptive play.

The team built lnking pathways between the zones to create a cohesive design and assist inclusive play. Natural and rustical coloured wetpour surfacing and sympathetically positioned mounding on both the Toddler and Junior space helped the play area blend into the wider green and expansive leafy recreation field.

The toddler area benefited from having a wheelchair-accessible roundabout next to other inclusive play equipment such as a Proludic playhouse (J234) and Spinning Bowl (J2411). Play panels and a lower set focal Diabolo Multiplay unit (J3851) further added to the sense of fun and accessibility.

A double-width embankment slide denotes the Junior space and leads onto a focal elongated Kanopé Multiplay unit (J5609). This play structure includes a lot of climbing and sliding play value to enjoy. This is topped off with some of the Proludic favourites like a Double Perch (J986), Hip Hop (J2410) and playful rope swing (J442). This equipment makes this a truly memorable experience for its users.

The nature area includes mini boulders and wooden play structures for children to get emersed amongst. Meanwhile, parents can watch on from benches at the side. A large educational sundial tops off this space adding a unique play value to this more non-prescriptive play space.

Farnsfield Parish Council were very lucky to receive many responses to our tender outreach, however, the design submitted by Proludic and their interpretation of what we were looking for, stood out against the rest. Proludic were able to design a fluid multi-space area that met the village needs, providing equipment for a large age range whilst being sympathetic to the natural surroundings.

Vikki Arkell, Farnsfield Parish Council Clerk & RFO.
