Woodbury Playing Fields

City: Woodbury
Country: United Kingdom

St. Stephens Parish Council in St. Albans identified an opportunity to revitalise Woodbury Fields, an underutilised area within the community. The aim was to transform the space into a vibrant hub for social interaction and recreation, catering to the diverse needs and interests of local residents. The village then didn’t offer anything for older children or families.

The objectives of the project were to rejuvenate Woodbury Fields and create a welcoming environment that promotes community engagement, physical activity, and social cohesion. St. Stephens Parish Council embarked on a comprehensive redevelopment plan for Woodbury Fields, incorporating a range of recreational elements to appeal to different user groups. Proludic was chosen for the innovation of the design offering equipment no other supplier could, including the new ACTI’Ninja range.

Specific goals included:

• Transforming the space into a multi-use area suitable for various recreational activities.
• Enhancing the aesthetic appeal of the site while maintaining its accessibility and functionality.
• Fostering a sense of community pride and ownership through active participation in the project.
• Providing opportunities for residents of all ages and backgrounds to come together and enjoy shared experiences.

Introduction of a Ninja Range included a Warrior trial which provided an exciting challenge for users, promoting physical fitness and skill development in an engaging and dynamic setting. A Teq Ball station was included within the design, offering an innovative fusion of football, encouraging friendly competition and teamwork among players. A dedicated table tennis station was installed, providing a classic and accessible game for users to enjoy.

Additionally, a ball shooter was incorporated into the space, allowing individuals to practice their shooting skills and accuracy in a fun and interactive manner. To accommodate team sports, two new goal ends were added to facilitate games of football and other ball sports. These goal ends served as focal points for activity, encouraging users to engage in friendly matches and organised sports events.

The space has become a popular destination for residents of all ages, offering a diverse range of activities and opportunities for social interaction. Residents now have a welcoming and inclusive space where they can come together to exercise, play, and socialise, fostering a sense of belonging and unity within the neighbourhood. By repurposing an underutilised space and introducing innovative recreational elements, St. Stephens Parish Council has successfully transformed Woodbury Fields into a dynamic and inclusive community asset. The project exemplifies the power of collaborative planning and community engagement in creating spaces that promote health, well-being, and social connection. Woodbury Fields now stands as a testament to the collective vision and resilience of the St. Albans community, serving as a cherished destination for generations to come.
