Community spirit is important in any children’s play area, whether in a park, a campsite or the nursery or school playground. Playing together gives children the opportunity to meet new people, experience new behaviour and different personalities.
This interaction helps children develop their social skills : they learn to respect others, to accept differences and respect the basic rules for group situations (for example , letting others go first, waiting your turn, sharing, listening).
Encounters encourage children to develop their imagination. Children come together on themed play structures, inside a playhouse or on a platform and tell each other stories, take on different roles and enter make-believe worlds. These exchanges in cooperative play contribute to children’s psychological development.
In a crèche or nursery school, playhouses and themed structures will be very popular areas for meeting and sharing fun experiences.
