Eastoke Seaside Play Park Transformed with £200,000 Revamp

Havant Borough Council, in collaboration with Proludic, has unveiled an impressive £200,000 renovation of the seaside play park at Eastoke Corner on Hayling Island. This revitalised space is designed to cater to children, teenagers, and fitness enthusiasts. It features a dedicated exercise zone with strength training stations, cardio equipment, Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA), and floor exercise area.

A New Era for Eastoke Play Park

The ambitious project aimed to rejuvenate a once-popular yet neglected seaside facility. This is because the site had suffered from the harsh effects of the sea air. The renovation not only refurbished the space but also ensured its durability against saline corrosion. Proludic’s equipment, known for withstanding tough climates, comes with lifetime guarantees on specific elements, ensuring longevity and minimal maintenance.

Inclusive and Inspired Design

Emphasising inclusivity, the design incorporates play elements accessible to users of all abilities. A highlight is the bespoke wheelchair-accessible train unit. Its design was inspired by the local Hayling Light Railway, which accommodates up to eight users. This unique feature enriches the social play experience and fosters inclusivity. We used durable materials such as hot-zinc-dip galvanization and powder coating to combat the corrosive sea air, ensuring the equipment’s resilience.

Proludic worked closely with Havant Borough Council to meet community needs. Key installations include a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) and Proludic ACTI’FUN Outdoor Fitness Equipment.

Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA): An open layout with lower fencing on one side to avoid a ‘cage-like’ feel. It also features dual entrances, and markings for various sports like football, basketball, netball, and cricket. Wall targets and a cricket wicket enhance user engagement.

ACTI’FUN Outdoor Fitness Equipment: A gym area focused on accessibility, featuring a callisthenics unit with wheelchair-accessible monkey bars and dip bars. The ACTI’Fit gym equipment caters to diverse exercise styles, ensuring a comprehensive fitness experience.

This revitalised play park and fitness area stand as a testament to the power of inclusive design and meticulous project delivery. By prioritising accessibility and equipment delivering coastal resilience, the project has delivered a vibrant space catering to the community’s diverse long-term needs, fostering social cohesion and physical wellbeing. This endeavour serves as a model for future projects, showcasing the profound impact of thoughtful design in enhancing quality of life and community engagement.
