Davies Park has long been a favourite spot for families, walkers, and sports enthusiasts. However, its play area had become tired and outdated, no longer providing the engaging and inclusive environment that the community needed. Recognising this, Perth and Kinross Council worked closely with local residents to plan a complete refurbishment to breathe new life into the space.
Funding for the project was secured primarily through the Scottish Government’s capital allocation, allowing the refurbishment to move forward. However, the process was not without its challenges. Navigating complex procurement procedures required patience and careful management, but thanks to the dedicated efforts of the project team, these obstacles were successfully overcome.
The project began with removing the old play equipment, making way for an exciting new selection chosen by the community. With inclusivity at the forefront, the design featured a variety of play experiences to cater to children of all abilities. The result was a vibrant and dynamic play area, incorporating four different styles of swings (J432 & J435), embankment slides, a wheelchair-friendly roundabout (J2409), a themed train structure, a trampoline, and a thrilling cableway (J514).
The refurbished play area features a carefully selected range of equipment to provide a fun and inclusive experience for all children. The installation includes four different styles of swings to cater to various age groups, an embankment slide for added adventure, and a wheelchair-friendly roundabout to ensure accessibility. A themed train play structure encourages imaginative play, while a trampoline adds an element of dynamic movement. The cableway offers an exciting, high-energy activity, making the play area a well-rounded space for exploration and enjoyment.
Community Involvement and Lasting Impact
The local community was actively involved throughout the consultation, led by Mr Nick Riley of Perth and Kinross Council. Their input was instrumental in shaping the final design, ensuring the new play area reflected their needs and aspirations. With safety and durability in mind, the playground was finished with wetpour surfacing and grass matting, seamlessly blending into the surrounding parkland.
Working with Perth and Kinross Council on the Davies Park refurbishment has been a pleasure. This project has created a vibrant and inclusive play space that truly benefits the community. Seeing children of all abilities enjoying the new equipment is incredibly rewarding.
