Housebuilder Project for Stuart Milne using Aquatica play equipment

Cove Bay is a coastal suburb on the south edge of Aberdeen. This was an inspiring outdoor development project for a new coastal playground. Stewart Milne Homes were really keen to provide an accessible playground that blended in well with the new housing development.

Site: Whitehills Gardens, Cove, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, AB12 3TZ

Client: Stewart Milne

Budget: £47,500

Age Range: Toddler, Junior

Date Opened: 28-September-2020

Ranges: Aquatica

The equipment selected makes a fantastic ship-wreck theme which is perfect for the new coastal playground located only 20 minutes’ walk from the sea. The aquatic theme was carried through in the toddler area with the sand and sea graphics in the safety surfacing.

The play area is rich in play values and accommodates over 50 children at any one time. The creative ‘Aquatica’ Activity Unit (J2755) is a play structure with a ship-wreck theme that comes in 2 sections, with a slide, climbing equipment, and a sheltered resting area. Alongside this central attraction, the play space uses more traditional playground equipment such as swings, slide towers, and a wobbly play bridge (J2740). These play items continue to incorporate the site’s coastal theming, using greens, browns, and blue safety surfacing for a vibrant and inspiring place for all ages.

The vision for the design was to give local children of all ages an exciting play area. The finished playground has exceeded expectations. The colours of the ship match the grass and the house frontages. The marine shipwreck theme has proved to be very popular with the grown-ups as well because there is now a lovely open park feel to the play space with room to wander around whilst enjoying the sea air.
